Do some pics ever make you think some people make

Do some pics ever make you think some people make hikes look easy? 😅 Well don’t confuse that with mine here. This hike was not easy at least at the last part when you’re climbing up to the cave and going down. It’s for one steep (going down I was so frightened!) and it’s a narrow way with bushes brushed up against you so close and many loose rocks (on top of the many different sizes of rocks you’ve already stepped on and you’ve had enough of it) and then finding which way you went can be confusing (that’s why it’s important to trace your steps back). ⁣
⁣
Imagine you’re in the wilderness, you’re solo, and you think you should relax once you get to the top but then you think about “How am I gonna climb down?” Or “What if I run into wildlife I don’t want to?” Or “What if it gets too dark?” Not to mention the other things that came with this: fearing I’ll get too close to a cactus since the narrow pathways consist of so much cacti, banging my feet against some rocks, coming home with a lot of sand in my shoes and having dirty feet, and then having to drive back an hour to go home when you’re already tired. 😓 ⁣

But that’s kind of why I love hikes. I mean look at the gorgeous views and this cave! I feel like my work out was worth it and I can conquer challenges without help. I can look back at it all. I can embrace the beauty in my backyard meanwhile. Life is too short to not experience things even outside of your comfort zone or do things that excite you. Never would I have thought me or my pictures would be featured in my favorite outdoor magazine of all time (this one features me in their #LiveBravely stories on @instagram). 💛 For the last year, I've dedicated advocacy and sharing stories of exploring the #outdoors and focus on #hiking in my blog and in other sources. @outsidemagazine This is the same magazine that I read daily, that featured some renowned athletes and outdoor enthusiasts and their stories, and inspired so much of what you’ve probably already read or seen (this is the mag that featured the long read where the movie Blue Crush was inspired from and the one that launched the career of Jon Krakauer who authored Into the Wild).⁣

A lot of people refer to me as a girl who loves to travel and think that’s all I do. 🤨 They think I have so much “freedom”. I think it’s time to address THE truth if it’s not something that crossed our minds: I only choose to show what I want in social media and it doesn’t represent my day-to-day life or my life as a whole. As you know, I go to places to fulfill my curiosities, to immerse myself into learning what’s around me, to live my life while I’m physically healthy, and most of all, I use my experiences to create content in helping people find adventure on my blog that I’ve had as a junior in college. It’s a business and it’s also a hobby. ⁣
⁣
Furthermore, I do not even travel as much as I dream to. I’ve taken majority of those trips in the last year from road trips. I hardly been able to afford abroad. I also have to point out that I’ve covered a lot of my content on hiking my own backyard (though it can be hard to distinguish if it’s outside the state - I understand); That’s why I branched out into an outdoors niche. I upload a lot of my old pics from former trips taken (throwbacks). Social media can be deceiving in many ways and I have to admit I actually love it because there’s a community out there and I don’t let people’s pictures of their lives make me envious at all. In fact, I celebrate for them because everyone has the right to live and my path is not anyone else’s nor should it be compared.⁣

This is just a reminder if you have any doubts, from me or for you, that I try to expose myself to places where there’s cheap deals to find (all my close friends know this) or what can be driven in a few hours. There will be like maybe one trip I’ll splurge on in a year from the past and far future. As of now, I’m limited because I chose to try to live a stable life by choosing the 9-5 life recently. This doesn’t mean that I can’t reach for the stars later. Have you ever seen the beautiful and massively grand #GrandCanyon outside of your airplane window? ✈️ It’s a cool view and you can recognize it right away when you’re flying over it! Sure, the experience of seeing it in person is different (I’ve seen it 3 times before up close and each visit was always breathtaking - swipe all the way to the right to compare). Albeit, it doesn’t change the perspective of how insane it looks. In fact, you can see the Grand Canyon from outer space (Google it). 😱 The only things missing from my Grand Canyon National Park visits is hiking it, camping in it, and rafting it. I’m definitely looking forward to when those days will come!! Like oh hot damn. Always give me the excuse to why I should get back visiting them 😉⁣

The 101st anniversary of Grand Canyon is approaching on February 26th. As a proud new Arizonan and the Grand Canyon becoming my first ever visited national park, I always pay homage to this famous and historical geological beauty. (It needs to be made into an emoji HONESTLY!) 🏜 @grandcanyonnps

California mood 🌊✨ As an Arizona gal, going to Cali for the shore is always a good option for a close beach escape and even before I moved out West from East, I been flying in and out of Cali as young as 7! #CatalinaIsland is one of the islands of Channel Islands off the coast of #California. This place is a vacation escape for Southern Cali locals and for those coming off from cruises to explore for the day. Happy 1st of February 2020! It’s a new month and

Happy 1st of February 2020! It’s a new month and I’ve been feeling vibes of transition shifting into my life lately. Maybe it’s Maybelline, maybe it’s manifestation. ✨ Actually, after so long of searching for and landing a full-time job with benefits (I mean SO long that it was getting to the point of post-grad depression), I just got offered one as a social media marketing strategist and I’ll actually be working side-by-side with Facebook and their advertisers in my company. 👩🏻‍💻 I thank God that sometimes good things do come to those that wait and I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life. This time around, Arizona will actually stay my home because I fell in love out here. With the mountains... ⛰ and there’s nothing more I want right now than to keep exploring them and the West. ⁣
⁣
Yet of course, I’m nervous of how breaking into change will feel for me. I just hope I’ll be able to adapt in a new company, environment, and even gain new skills. I think things will take time as always. With a full-time job, it doesn’t mean my exploration journey should end, instead this means I’ll be taking great advantage of weekends for now. ⁣
⁣
I’ll be missing being by pretty beaches and the ocean like this in #LaJolla, #SanDiego for now. 🌊 I hope I’ll come back home too by the shore of New Jersey one day and visit again but for now, I’ll be doing what I need to do. LOVE YOU GUYS, thank you for everyone’s support in all the tough times I’ve encountered in the last years.

I just watched the 1956 film Lust for Life, which is a film that depicts #VincentVanGogh’s life, struggles, and his bouts of creativity on @turnerclassicmovies. He seemed to be such a man devoted to his craft of painting but it was his passion and it was one thing that kept him stable, calm, and a way to express himself. His life was known to be tragic, but we don’t see Vincent van Gogh for that. We see him for how he made people feel like most artists can capture.⁣⁣⁣

No matter how lonely he has felt often and doing things he couldn’t control beyond, he had met some influential people who had showed him he can be cared for and believed in him for his talent. His brother Theo says in the film that his paintings “can be sublime.” Indeed, they were. 🎨 ⁣⁣⁣

Now, millions of people try to see his work up close and personal and whenever I got the chance to, I was amazed by every detail and every stroke. Gosh, such talent... Here’s to mental illness no longer needing to be stigmatized. ✊🏼 For a 1950s film, I’m pretty impressed that mental illness was a prominent theme.⁣ ⁣

And yes, that’s the legitimate/original painting of “The Starry Night” along with the rest I’ve put in this slide, except the last pic is a cool pic I put in there because I liked the bench structure and I feel like that’s a representation of how mental illness can feel.⁣

I DID IT. I finished the #52HikeChallenge and this

I DID IT. I finished the #52HikeChallenge and this year I accomplished hiking a sum elevation gain of 25,420 feet, 138.84 miles, and hiked in 5 other states!! 🇺🇸 🥾 ⛰ Oh mannn, what a journey!! I did Hike 52 in the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountains... #PiestewaPeak. ⁣⁣

Looking back at this journey, I only hiked occasionally with friends before the challenge and while I did hike a lotttt this year that doesn’t mean I am an expert in hiking but I can tell you that I grew to become a better version of myself in unexpected ways all because I committed to hiking nearly weekly. I am so grateful for my body and what it can do and how strong your mentality can become. I found a deep love for the awe-inspiring nature out there and this is coming from a girl who grew up by flat-elevated suburbs and cities and didn’t come from an outdoorsy family. This is coming from a girl who had a HUGE fear in heights and suffer from vertigo and motion sickness. I couldn’t be more proud of myself for sticking to a recreational activity I was scared to do and faced... even if I did majority of it solo. ⁣⁣

I know now that I can accomplish things as long as I put my mind into it. I will no longer feel weak even when certain events in my life had tried to break me down. I can rise and move mountains (...more like meet). I can practice a lot of meditation in the times I am alone (and yep, even hiking in sketchy dark nights). Thank you to those who have supported me through what became an obsession to setting goals like this and for one of my favorite hobbies. 💗⁣⁣

This doesn’t mean though that I’m done hiking for the rest of the year lol.... it just means I’m going to go Beyond 52 😉⁣ @52hikechallenge ⁣ ⁣

P.S. Don’t mind how messy my tiramisu cupcake looks, it’s hard to carry that in good condition when you’re going up a peak lol.

Now that I am a year older, I think about how much

Now that I am a year older, I think about how much wiser I am. 🎂 I was always afraid to get older but now I embrace that feeling that I am. I became an unapologetic woman and I can easily recognize things that aren’t good for me anymore or isn’t helping me gain valuable momentum in growth. ⁣⁣

I always did want to reach this stage of my life where I can feel okay with myself (how I look, how I do things my way, how I want to take care of myself - physically, spiritually, and mentally, how I speak my mind). I am also unapologetic in who I am as a person. I was told by a few that I have a lot of “energy” in me as if that was a bad thing. What I learned as I grew is that not everyone is going to like you for you and that is nothing to worry about... because as long as you are a positive force of nature that others hope for in some way through life, you will continue to make an impact whether it’s being a leader, a best friend, a child, a partner, etc. And if so, keep doing that. That’s living for a purpose!⁣⁣

It’s been a crazy ride of what one year alone can have. What 365 days can do. Or even what few years can do... you’re going to have to navigate life through many hurdles and these all lead you to paths that will build YOU with confidence and clarity. 🌎 I do not want to go back to being younger and I would love to stay with this mentality and actually embrace who I am going to be as I age. #postbirthday #SanDiego #loveyourself⁣⁣

The following pics are from #CabrilloNationalMonument, a monument that commemorates Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, first European to navigate the west coast, and it’s situated on top of a cliff that overlooks the whole city of San Diego. The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is the highest point on there. The views are beautiful!

Beautiful sweeping views off the coast of #SanDiego. 🌊 Torrey Pine State Reserve has many trails you can hit and it’s also one interesting park... it has cliffs and rocks from million years ago with different layers like the red butte, Torrey sandstone, and cobblestone. It has the mixture of desert elements like the cactus and other plants that grow on desert. It also contains the rarest pine species in America called the Torrey Pine. 🌲 ⁣

This park is a 10/10 in my book and you also do have to drive up cliffs that offer many views of the sea and city of San Diego. Alsooo, this marked my #Hike51 out of 52 for the @52hikechallenge! LIKE WHAT? Almost done for the year 😩. Also, I do plan to continue hiking as much as I can because it’s the best exercise for me. I know y’all know me already as being obsessed with hikes but it’s my passion and brings me adrenaline and UTTER JOY! 🥾 #hikemoreworryless

Went sea kayaking the other day in the deep blue California sea. 🌊🚣🏻‍♀️ Thanks to @everydaycalifornia for the experience! It was on my bucket list in San Diego to do and it was pretty fun... besides the feeling of sea sickness which made me actually yak 🤢 and I wasn’t able to go kayak inside the sea cave as originally planned due to the waves being heavy that day in the cave. I was so excited to have seen it but I know things happen. ALSO, my kayak capsized as we made it close to shore hahaha. Swipe to the end to see a @gopro video of it that I accidentally filmed. Thankful for the helmet I was wearing as it protected my head! I went kayaking with my strong and also adventurous mom to celebrate our birthdays together 🎉 #everydaycalifornia ⁣

Also, if you’re going to kayak at all in the ocean and suffer from sea sickness as well, remember to take motion sickness meds or wear an acupressure wristband like the Seaband because trust me... you don’t want to feel how I felt.
