Mid-century Modern Airbnb in Tempe, Arizona

There are some vacation rentals you probably come across and feel right at home, and that was the case for this Airbnb I recently stayed in. This 3-bedroom home is the epitome of mid-century modern. It is family-friendly and it is located right in the neighborhood district of Tempe, Arizona. Tempe is a large city just east of Phoenix, and if you’re traveling to either city, you might enjoy your time in this Airbnb as I did.

Tempe is a city I’ve become a bit familiar with since it’s not far from where I live and there were days when my girlfriends and I would just hang around there. It is also the home to Arizona State University (not that I ever went there), but there is a huge population of students and working professionals and families who reside here. It is close to many attractions (scroll below). My family came to visit one weekend and we stayed here together.

This mid-century modern home is amazingly put together.

Also called “Chateau Balboa”, as the hosts like to call this Airbnb, embodies mid-century eclecticism. Mid-century interiors and architecture is probably my favorite type of design ever, and I hope to embody that in my future home too. I love that mid-century styles can be timeless and take you back to a time, but mix that in with modern and you get subtle visuals of minimalism and pops of patterns and colors.

One of the hosts is a LA native and was inspired by their summer getaways to Palm Springs Desert. You can definitely pick up that inspiration around the home with natural urban furniture mixed with retro pieces (the colorful pieces) and Palm Springs Desert favors mid-century modern style a lot. There’s also a bedroom, the one I stayed in, that has a whole wall painted in orange, has a hung-up frame of the Californian desert of a Joshua tree, and has a wooden bed frame. You’ll find each bedroom was designed to its own palettes.

You can tell these hosts put a lot of tender love and care and were meticulous in picking out these mid-century modern pieces to create the vibe they were going for. The bathrooms here are also so pretty, bright, and have these tiles and light-colored wooden cabinets that I love, and there’s a bright airy feeling found in the kitchen too.

Airbnb accommodations

This Airbnb home has plenty of accommodations that can accommodate a family. This home has a driveway for your cars to be parked at, a heated pool, a BBQ grill, security cameras, and a dedicated workspace that has a glass desk and a cute mid-century setup. There are also TVs in the home with Roku connected to them so you have options to watch different channels and there is Wi-Fi here, which I was so blessed to have as I was able to work in the home.

One thing I loved about this Airbnb is how they provide so many supplies stocked in the drawers and cabinets. There are spoons, forks, and other kitchen utensils, as well as some cooking ingredients (like sugar), and in the bathroom cabinets, you can find aloe vera, sunscreen, a dry shampoo, and cotton pads. They also provide plenty of towels, cleaning materials, a vacuum, and laundry machines. When Airbnbs provide these things, I find myself liking being there so much more.

Places to visit near this Airbnb

There’s a public park right across this Airbnb called Daumler Park that plenty of people go to during certain hours, and it’s pretty green. Since this is in Tempe, there are also nice places to explore in the city like Tempe Marketplace, which is 8 minutes away, and Tempe Town Lake, an artificial reservoir with lit-up bridges and with boating, scooters, and biking activity options. There’s some nightlife, an ice cream shop, some shopping stores, and lots of food places around in Downtown Tempe/Mill Avenue District, where lots of college students hang around too.

If you’re looking for a place to stay near the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, it is only about 10 minutes away from here. Downtown Phoenix is 20 minutes away and Papago Park is a fun little nature place to go visit in Phoenix. For those parents wanting to visit their ASU college kid or supporting their kid through graduation, ASU is only 8 minutes away.

The city of Scottsdale is only about 15 minutes away; you can see a guide I wrote of what to see and do in Scottsdale here. Spring Training events are pretty popular in Arizona around the months of February and March, so you can find some stadiums close by like Scottsdale Stadium, Tempe Diablo Stadium, Sloan Park, and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars around here and here are some recommendations to go eat/drink at:

  • If you want food, cocktails, games, and sports: The Porch
  • If you want breakfast and brunch food: Snooze
  • If you want Asian food: Kabuki Japanese Restaurant, Juun All You Can Eat Sushi, Tokyo Sushi and More
  • If you want good meals, cocktails, and (maybe) live music: Culinary Dropout
  • If you want some really good donuts and desserts from Arizona: Bosa Donuts
  • If you want a brewery or bar: Four Peaks Brewery Company, Tempe Tavern, Yucca Tap Room
@from1girlto1world My family came to visit and we stayed at this gorgeous mid-century modern #Airbnb! Having stayed in many Airbnbs over the years, this, picked out by my sister, was one of my favorite ones that made me feel super homey and it’s family-friendly with 3 bedrooms. I loved every detail and piece displayed here since this is my favorite style of interior design and you can tell the hosts put so much tender love and care and were meticulous to putting this place together, as a home built in the 1970s. The stunning art displayed here added to it too!! 🏠 Blog post coming soon on this home for more details, more of my review, and where to explore around here👍🏼 #travelblogger #travelstories #travelwriter #bloggers #femaleblogger #adventureanywhere #girlswhoexplore #sayyestonewadventures #sheexplores #explorepage #liveauthentic #liveyourbestlifenow #travelreels #visittheusa #visitarizona #airbnbhost #staycation #tempe #tempeaz #midcenturymodern #midcenturyfurniture #midcenturyhome #vacationrental #archilovers #rentals #homesoftiktok #housetour ♬ original sound – jakeandshelbyofficial
